On some apple mobiles the Next button in the upper right sits very high and can be hard to activiate, if you pull down the whole screen the Next button can then be got at, we are working to try and fix it.

A1c:

A formula has been developed by researchers (Nathan, Diabetes Care, Vol 31, Page 1473, 2008) to derive the average blood glucose in mmol/L from the A1c. We just reversed the formula to see what A1c your average blood glucose would translate back into and this is at the bottom of the IDM Diabetes Diary Screen. We will be interested to see how accurate it works out to be!

Badges:

They can be turned off. In the main menu screen just go to badges and it's the checkbox just above the badges. By default, it is checked. If the user uncheckes it, then the pop up doesn't appear.

Changing Settings:

Can only be made through IDM website, you can view your settings on the phone, but not modify them.
  1. Log into your IDM account on your computer

System Crash:

If things stop working sometimes a reset of just turning off the phone for a minute gets it back on track. This seems to sometimes happen after a setting change. It looks as if sometimes in the change of settings things are not saved quite correctly so if this happens please go in and review all your settings both basal and bolus.

Clinics

If you are seeing your diabetes team and want them to see your glucose records you can log them into your account at your visit but the decision is yours as to who you share your records with.

Deleting Entries:

IDMest way is to go to the History Tab on the phone and hit the arrow to the right for that entry. At the bottom is Delete Log.

Extra Notes:

On the phone when you hit create log, just below the meal time are the tags where you can add any notes you like.

IDM Web site

Go to IDM UofA web site, sign in under your name and password. In the upper right is the box “Diabetes Diary” – hit on this and it displays your glucose levels. You can also see and/or change your settings, see changing settings.

Insulin Dose:

If you feel you should use a different dose of insulin or say the pump wizard suggests one thing and IDM another just use the dose you feel most comfortable with but on the phone when it says IDM recommends xx units you can hit modify and scroll down to insulin and put in dose you are taking and on IDM we can see you took  the different dose. If you have taken more than IDM suggested e.g. 2 units, the extra will appear as (+2) on the IDM diary sheet.

Keyboard:

Q: My phone will not show a decimal point in order to enter non whole numbers eg 5.7.
A: This may be a problem with some Samsung phones. It's not a glitch related to the application but it can be solved by changing the keyboard settings of the phone. Best solution is to go to the Android play store, search for Google Keyboard which is free. Install it. Then make it your default keyboard from the device's settings and it works perfectly! Note if it is already installed it will say so in the bottom right of the first panel.

Off Line Use:

Just use normally and it will synch to IDM when you are back on line.

Reviewing Reading:

This is best done with the IDM web site, you can see some on the phone but the system is designed to facilitate review with IDM. Just log into you IDM account at IDM UofA. You can show as much or as little detail as you want by just clicking on the item in the panel near the top - if you want to not see the CHO amounts just unclick carbohydrate and hit SHOW. Likewise for time, exercise, tags, insulin doses hypoglycemia. It is sometimes IDMest to see the glucose patterns by just showing glucose alone. If you are on a pump then you can review your basal rates for any day by hitting “insulin pump” located just under the date which is in the first column.
